Session Description: When the kids go off to college and when Mom & Dad visit them, especially over a football weekend, few people (except the insurance agent) ever think about how insurance works. This one hour class looks at some of the exposures faced by parents and kids when Junior or Sissy head off to college. Some of the subjects include: kid's cars, coverage, and how it's titled; does the kid have enough Coverage C under the homeowners policy; is a dormitory room or a fraternity/sorority house an “insured location"; territory issues – the kid could do a “study abroad" semester; scooters, Segways, and other motorized land conveyances; spring break issues such as renting a jet ski or four-wheeler; host liquor issues; rental of a motor home for a tailgate weekend, and a lot more. David Thompson, CPCU, AAI, API, CRIS is a full-time instructor for the Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA) and one of the top personal lines technical experts in the country. After ten years in the agency business, he taught insurance for a local community college, then served as a contract instructor for FAIA until accepting a full-time position in 1996.

Brandon Smith is working to be a catalyst in the evolution of independent agents: In addition to his role as managing partner for GiiG (Glidewell Investments & Insurance Group), he was co-founder of Insurance Agency Owners Alliance (IAOA), an association of agents who innovate and collaborate through events, webinars and more. The 16-year industry veteran also is a top Dave Ramsey Endorsed Local Provider. He attended Southwestern University on a basketball scholarship and still enjoys hoops in his free time. Brandon is a die-hard Red Sox fan, loves coffee and Wi-Fi, and was once a line leader in second grade. Brandon, his wife Joy and three children (Avery 12, Boston 10, and Harper 7) reside in Missoula, Montana.
