The ABEN Difference

The Agents & Brokers Education Network (ABEN) is a joint project of state insurance and brokers associations who have a common goal: improving the quality and accessibility of distance learning opportunities available to their members.

Webinar technology has, for some time, been a common offering of many participating ABEN associations. Combining powerpoint slides delivered via the internet with audio of the instructor, either by telephone or internet, the webinar format allows for the delivery of educational content in a convenient, but visually limited fashion.

ABEN's Technology

The ABEN network is founded on the use of streaming video content over the internet that provides the participant with live, full motion video of the presenter, high quality audio, along with coordinated powerpoint slides. The ABEN platform, provided by Business Professionals' Network and its technology partner, BizVision, also allows the end user to fully participate in the webcast by downloading written materials, emailing questions to presenters in real time, making notes in the viewer "notes" area, and emailing those notes to themselves for later use.

ABEN programming features enhanced production values and formats appropriate to the video medium. Presenters interact with each other as well as you, the ABEN participant. This delivers an educational experience that is engaging, interesting, as well as professionally rewarding.

Surplus Lines License Review Course

Length: 3 hrs

Course Description:

This course will review and explain the major topics covered on the SC Surplus Lines Exam. Included in the discussion will be insurance regulation, general requirements and concepts, types of insurers, surplus lines markets and practices and other topics referenced on the surplus lines exam content outline. Course includes a detailed outline and student manual to assist in preparation for the surplus lines exam.

  • Rebecca H. McCormack, CIC, CPCU, AAI, CPIW

    • Becky McCormack is the Vice-President of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.  Becky began her insurance career in 1984 after graduating from the University of South Carolina with a double major in Insurance and Economic Security and Business Management. Before joining IIABSC in September 1996, Becky’s background included agency and broker experience, as well as eight years as a Commercial Lines Underwriter and Marketing Representative for The Travelers Insurance Company. Becky instructs a variety of insurance continuing education seminars including all of the Certified Insurance Services Representative (CISR) modules, Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) seminars and the Dynamics of Service seminar. She currently serves as the Chairperson of the SC Continuing Education Advisory Board for the SC Department of Insurance.

      Becky holds the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AIA) and Certified Professional Insurance Women (CPIW) designations.

      Becky lives in Chapin, SC with her husband Jeff. They have one daughter, Claire, who is an insurance agent in Hilton Head, SC.
